Understanding Polyamorous Families: A Workshop for Professionals

If you are a counselor, therapist, educator, or other professional who serves families with children and want to develop cultural competency with polyamorous families, please join us this Friday for an online workshop!

Using data from the Longitudinal Polyamorous Family Study (1996 – present), Dr. Elisabeth Sheff presents findings relevant to families with multiple adults. Patterned on a lifecourse model, this presentation begins with polyamorous family formation and child-bearing, talking to children about polyamory, and polyamorous parenting. Then it shifts to children’s reported experiences, focusing on their perceived advantages, disadvantages, and strategies to manage the disadvantages. Next it addresses resilient outcomes for polyamorous families, with special attention to aging and death in long-term multiple partner relationships. The workshop closes with time for questions and discussion.
