What do you give the kinkster who has everything? Out of ideas for an eco-friendly gift for the polyamorous folks in your life? Consider giving them the gift of sexual freedom! By supporting one of the four non-profit organizations below, you can help to fight for your gender and sexual minority friends’ and family members’ rights. Also, these donations would be tax deductible! In alphabetical order, the organizations listed below are four of my favorite defenders of the rights of sex and gender minorities, and especially for folks in consensually non-monogamous and kinky relationships.
Dedicated to supporting polyamorous people for the past 30 years, Loving More is a non-profit educational organization that provides resources, publishes a magazine, and offers conferences. Because they are one of the oldest advocacy organizations, Loving More has become a clearing house for information, media contacts, and community support at their yearly Poly Living conferences in Philadelphia and Denver, as well as their online communities. If you love polyamorous people, consider donating to Loving More.
Focusing on legal advocacy and information, the NCSF is a non-profit organization committed to creating a political, legal and social environment in the US that advances equal rights for consenting adults who engage in alternative sexual and relationship expressions, specifically consenting adults in the BDSM-Leather-Fetish, Swing, and Polyamory Communities. As part of their advocacy, NCSF provides direct services, education, and outreach. They host the Kink Aware Professionals Directory, an incredibly useful kink community resource that is helpful to other sex and gender minorities as well, and their legal archives have information massed over years. If that sounds like a good idea to you, donate to NCSF
Sex and gender minorities who are parents and have enough money to protect themselves legally are safer than those without the funds to pay a good lawyer. Unfortunately, there are many families who face the possibility of losing custody of their children simply because they are in kinky or polyamorous relationships. For those who can’t afford legal representation, the Sexual Freedom Legal Defense and Education Fund offers some funding. A non-profit run by donation, they are always in need of additional funds. If you support legal equality for SGM families, please consider donating to the SFLDEF.
With a focus on organizing for political change, the Woodhull Freedom Foundation is a non-profit organization devoted to education and public advocacy in support of consensual expression as a human right. They have a special talent for creating coalitions with other activists and advocacy organizations to fight for sexual freedom as a human right. As part of their quest to create a more just, compassionate, and sustainable world, Woodhull hosts the annual Sexual Freedom Summit every August in Washington DC. If you want to support legal and political advocacy for sexuality as a human right, then please donate to the Woodhull Freedom Foundation.
